Stardew Valley Coffee Guide: Coffee Beans, Triple Shot Espresso and Real Recipes
Share
In Stardew Valley, coffee is made by putting 5 Coffee Beans in a Keg; after 2 in-game hours you get one Coffee, which gives +1 Speed for 1 minute 23 seconds. Three Coffees cooked together make a Triple Shot Espresso, which stretches that speed buff to 4 minutes 12 seconds. This Stardew Valley coffee guide covers beans, kegs and buffs, then shows you how to make a real triple shot espresso and a big pot of farm-style coffee at home.
Stardew Valley at a Glance
Stardew Valley is a farming and life simulation game created by Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe. It launched on Windows in February 2016 and has since come to consoles and mobile. You inherit your grandfather's old farm, grow crops, raise animals, fish, mine and get to know the people of Pelican Town.
Days pass quickly in the game, so anything that helps you move faster is precious. That is exactly where coffee comes in.
How to Get Coffee Beans in Stardew Valley
Coffee Beans are both a seed and an ingredient. Here is what you need to know:
- Seasons: plant them in spring or summer. Plants still growing on the last day of spring carry on into summer.
- Growth: 10 days to mature, then a new harvest every 2 days.
- Harvest: about 4 beans per picking.
- Where to find them: Dust Sprites in the mines can drop them (a rare 1% chance), and the Traveling Cart sometimes sells them. No regular shop stocks them.
Because a single plant keeps producing all summer, a handful of beans planted early can turn into a steady coffee supply.
Making Stardew Valley Coffee: Keg, Buffs and Prices
Put 5 Coffee Beans of the same quality into a Keg and wait 2 in-game hours. Out comes one cup of Coffee. If you would rather skip the farming, Gus sells Coffee at the Stardrop Saloon.
The real upgrade is the Triple Shot Espresso. Buy the recipe from the Stardrop Saloon, then cook it in your kitchen with 3 Coffees.
| Item | How to make | Buff | Energy / Health | Sell price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coffee | 5 Coffee Beans in a Keg (2 hours) | +1 Speed, 1m 23s | 3 / 1 | 150g |
| Triple Shot Espresso | 3 Coffee, cooked (recipe 5,000g at the Saloon) | +1 Speed, 4m 12s | 8 / 3 | 450g |
Two handy details: the speed buff also makes your horse faster, and Coffee is not an Artisan Good, so the Artisan profession does not raise its price. Most players drink their coffee rather than sell it, since the time saved on a busy farm day is worth far more.
Coffee Tips for Your Farm
- Drink a Triple Shot Espresso at the start of a long mining run or a big harvest day.
- Keep a Keg or two dedicated to coffee all summer.
- Sort your beans by quality: a Keg needs 5 beans of the same quality, so keep regular, silver and gold beans in separate stacks.
How to Make a Real Triple Shot Espresso
In the café world, three shots in one cup is often called a triple or triplo. It is intense, so treat it as a once-a-day pick-me-up for long days, not a habit you repeat.
You will need:
- 21 g (about 3 tablespoons) of finely ground espresso coffee
- An espresso machine with a triple basket (or two pulls: a double plus a single)
- A warmed 3 to 4 fl oz (90 to 120 ml) cup
- Dose 21 g of fresh, fine ground coffee into the triple basket and level it.
- Tamp firmly and evenly.
- Pull the shot, aiming for about 45 to 55 g (1.5 to 1.9 fl oz) of liquid in 25 to 30 seconds.
- If it runs fast and tastes sour, grind finer. If it drips slowly and tastes harsh, grind coarser.
- Drink it straight, or add a splash of hot water for a smoother cup.
A bold, chocolatey blend gives the best results. Our 6 Bean Blend was built for espresso, and the Italian Roast brings extra dark intensity. For the basics of machine technique, read how to make espresso at home.
How Much Caffeine Is in a Triple Shot?
A single shot of espresso usually contains roughly 60 to 75 mg of caffeine, so a triple lands somewhere around 180 to 225 mg depending on the beans and the dose. The FDA cites up to 400 mg a day as a level not generally associated with negative effects for most healthy adults. If you are pregnant, have a medical condition or take medication, ask your doctor what is right for you.
Farm-Style Coffee for the Whole Crew
Not every morning calls for espresso. When the whole household is up early, a big batch of strong coffee is the real farmhouse way.
Big-batch French press (about 4 mugs):
- Coarsely grind 60 g (about 2/3 cup of whole beans) of coffee.
- Add the grounds to a large French press and pour in 1 liter (34 fl oz) of water just off the boil.
- Stir, put the lid on and wait 4 minutes.
- Press slowly and pour everything right away so it does not turn bitter.
For a smooth, crowd-pleasing farm cup, try our Cowboy Blend, with cocoa, caramel and vanilla notes, or the classic Breakfast Blend. Need more strength? Our coffee to water ratio guide shows how to adjust.
Summer Harvest Iced Coffee
Coffee Beans grow in summer in the game, so an iced version feels right. Brew the French press recipe above at double strength, then pour it over a glass packed with ice. It melts down to the right strength. For an even smoother drink, see our guide on how to make cold brew.
